This year’s GermanOWASPDay takes place on September 23 and 24, 2026 in Karlsruhe. OWASP stands for Open Worldwide Application Security Project.

The conference covers current topics in cybersecurity and the integration of AI, without any marketing jargon. Instead, it focuses on practical insights from security experts for anyone seriously engaged in cybersecurity. The conference, like all other OWASP activities, is made possible largely by the volunteer efforts of its members. For ten years now, SCHUTZWERK has been a regular sponsor of this vendor-neutral conference on application security, which brings developers, IT decision-makers, and security experts together.

Discussing application security on equal footing in Karlsruhe

Why is it worth attending? The first day, September 23, offers two formats where networking takes center stage. The free “OWASP Diversity PreCon” is aimed primarily at women and queer people, giving them the opportunity to connect with the application security community in an informal setting, discuss on equal footing, and exchange ideas. After all, security topics should be accessible to everyone and communicated transparently. In parallel, in-depth security trainings are once again open to anyone interested. The first day closes with an evening event for all participants.

25 years of OWASP

After a day full of expert talks, there is good reason to raise a glass in the evening: 22 years of German OWASP Day and the 25th anniversary of OWASP not only represent a successful event format but also highlight the strong demand for networking and knowledge exchange in cybersecurity.

OWASP is a globally active nonprofit organization that has been providing open standards, guidelines, and tools to improve software security since 2001. It is best known for the OWASP Top 10, a regularly updated list of the most critical security risks for web and API applications. Recent milestones include the OWASP Top 10:2025, finalized in early 2026, which introduces two new categories, Software Supply Chain Failures and Mishandling of Exceptional Conditions, while other risks were restructured or consolidated. OWASP has also broadened its scope and now offers dedicated Top 10 lists for APIs (2023), cloud-native applications, and LLM and AI systems (2025), reflecting the growing importance of modern software architectures and AI security.
